VITAS Healthcare Expands Hospice Services Into Manatee County

Manatee County’s rapidly aging population now has a new provider for end-of-life care as VITAS Healthcare officially began accepting patient referrals across the region on June 8. The expansion targets a demographic that has seen a 15% population surge over the last decade, increasing the local demand for specialized medical support.

The provider, which operates across 15 states, is now offering its full suite of hospice and palliative services to residents in Bradenton, Palmetto, Parrish, and Lakewood Ranch. By deploying interdisciplinary teams—including physicians, nurses, social workers, and chaplains—the organization aims to manage complex symptoms for patients in private homes, nursing facilities, and assisted living communities.

Anthony Cosma II, vice president of operations for VITAS, noted that the move addresses a clear gap in local resources. Beyond routine clinical care, the company is introducing specialized programs to the area, such as music therapy, pet visitation through their Paw Pals initiative, and American Heart Association-certified cardiac care. Families and clinicians can access these services 24/7 via the company’s mobile app or their direct referral line, facilitating care for patients with advanced illnesses who require everything from medication management to intensive, short-term comfort care.
