SerpApi Launches Markdown Output to Slash AI Token Costs

Austin-based search data provider SerpApi has introduced a Markdown output format across its suite of over 100 APIs, a move designed to cut AI token consumption by up to 90%. The update allows developers to feed real-time search results directly into LLMs in a leaner, more efficient format.

By stripping away the verbose structure inherent in JSON, the new Markdown integration optimizes data for the specific needs of AI agents and large language models. CEO Julien Khaleghy notes that while JSON remains standard for traditional software development, Markdown has become the native language for AI reasoning. This shift allows developers to maximize their context windows, ensuring that models process the most relevant information without wasting resources on unnecessary syntax.

The update is available immediately across all existing SerpApi integrations without requiring new endpoints or complex reconfigurations. Developers simply toggle the format via a query parameter or header, maintaining continuity with their current infrastructure. This release follows a period of rapid expansion for the company, which recently hit 1.5 million activated user accounts as demand for reliable, real-time web grounding for AI systems continues to climb.
