Montefiore Mount Vernon Unveils Expanded Emergency Department

The expansion introduces 11 new patient beds, two triage rooms, and a dedicated isolation room, designed to prioritize patients based on the severity of their medical needs. Beyond clinical space, the facility now includes a modernized security vestibule, a revamped waiting area, and improved amenities for medical staff, including a lounge and administrative offices. This initial phase marks the beginning of a broader transformation aimed at nearly tripling the department's footprint and doubling its capacity to handle up to 50,000 annual visits by late 2027.

This investment follows the recent upgrade of the hospital's Family Health & Wellness Center, which now offers specialized services ranging from cardiology to infectious disease. According to Regginald Jordan, Vice President for Clinical Services, these improvements function as the facility’s primary gateway to health. Looking ahead, hospital leadership plans to finalize construction on updated surgical suites equipped with advanced medical technology, ensuring that residents have access to complex procedures closer to home.
