Tuya Smart’s Alex Yang: Real-World Utility Drives the Next AI Wave

At the 17th Annual Meeting of the New Champions in Dalian, Tuya Smart Co-Founder Alex Yang argued that the global AI race has shifted away from theoretical breakthroughs toward practical, large-scale deployment. He emphasized that the winners of this new era will be those who move beyond experimentation into outcome-driven business models.

During the "China's Lobster Fever" session, Yang highlighted a distinct acceleration in China’s AI adoption. He pointed to a massive, active developer base and a societal appetite for rapid technological testing as the primary engines of this growth. For Tuya, this translates into a strategy centered on integrating AI into everyday infrastructure, such as smart home ecosystems and energy management systems that utilize dynamic pricing data from over 800 European utility providers.

Beyond individual applications, Yang underscored a fundamental pivot in commercial strategy. He noted that the industry is moving away from traditional usage-based pricing toward value-based models, where success is measured by concrete results rather than raw consumption. To sustain this momentum, he advocates for an open developer ecosystem, suggesting that long-term competitiveness depends on building AI-native organizations capable of scaling these tools across global markets.
