Proliant Health & Biologicals Launches Animal-Free Recombinant Albumin

Diagnostic assay developers face a shifting regulatory landscape, prompting Ankeny-based Proliant Health & Biologicals to release AlbufreeDX. The new recombinant human albumin eliminates reliance on animal-derived materials, targeting the rising demand for consistent, high-purity components in life science research and global IVD manufacturing workflows.

Traditional albumin sources often carry significant traceability burdens and regulatory risks. By utilizing precision fermentation, Proliant aims to provide a stable alternative that minimizes lot-to-lot variability. Dr. Christopher Warner, Vice President of Research and Development, noted that the product allows IVD companies to streamline global compliance and meet internal ESG commitments by removing human- or animal-origin components from their devices.

The launch marks a strategic shift for the Iowa-based company, which has spent two decades supplying purified proteins from its U.S. and New Zealand facilities. According to President and CEO Dr. Christopher Detzel, the release serves as a natural extension of their existing portfolio, maintaining the industrial-scale reliability customers require for protein stabilization, surface blocking, and reagent formulation. This rollout acts as a precursor to upcoming specialized offerings, including AlbufreeTX for cell culture and AlbufreeCGT for cell and gene therapy applications.
