Meta Undercuts Snap With $244 Smart Glasses Push

Meta has launched a new line of smart glasses starting at $244, a direct challenge to Snap’s recent $2,195 hardware release. By pricing its entry-level model at nearly seven times less than its competitor, Meta is aggressively moving to consolidate its control over a market segment that saw 167% growth in early 2026.

The new lineup features three distinct styles: the Adventurer, the Fury, and a $399 Starfire model. The latter represents a high-profile collaboration with Kylie Jenner, replacing the standard Meta AI voice assistant with an AI-generated version of the influencer’s own voice. Unlike previous hardware iterations that relied on partnerships with Ray-Ban and Oakley, these devices are the first to carry the Meta brand name exclusively.

Meta currently claims roughly 80% of the smart glasses market, with daily active users tripling over the past year. By prioritizing affordability, the company aims to secure a dominant mass-market position before Apple introduces its own hardware. This strategy underscores a shift toward mass adoption as the company attempts to outpace rivals in the wearable technology race.
