Medical technology giant BD has secured an Innovative Technology contract from Vizient for its CentroVena One system, a device designed to consolidate central line insertion into a single, streamlined process aimed at reducing procedural complexity and improving safety outcomes across clinical settings.

The agreement follows an evaluation by hospital experts within Vizient’s client-led councils, who identified the system's potential to standardize procedures that traditionally involve numerous component exchanges. By integrating the needle, guidewire, syringe, and catheter into one unit, the device reduces procedure steps by 30% and cuts maximum placement time by 50%, according to findings published in The Journal of Emergency Medicine.

Eric Borin, worldwide president of Medication Delivery Solutions at BD, stated that the contract validates the clinical demand for more efficient, standardized insertion methods. Beyond efficiency, the system includes safety features intended to mitigate contamination risks and prevent complications such as air embolisms and needlestick injuries. Vizient, which manages an annual purchasing volume exceeding $156 billion, awards such contracts to products deemed to provide meaningful differentiation within the competitive healthcare market.
