DropGenie Secures Seed+ Capital to Scale Gene Editing Automation

With backing from Skeleton Key and Merck Global Health Innovation Fund, Montreal-based DropGenie has closed a Seed+ financing round to move its gene editing platform toward full commercial launch. The startup aims to transform drug discovery by miniaturizing workflows to allow direct experimentation on primary patient cells.

The capital infusion will support the expansion of manufacturing capabilities and the development of commercial operations as the company transitions from its successful Early Access Program. Current users, spanning global pharmaceutical firms and research institutions, have already begun integrating DropGenie’s technology to reduce reagent consumption and accelerate turnaround times for complex gene editing tasks.

CEO Alison Hirukawa noted that the platform’s ability to work with primary cells provides researchers with biological insights that were previously difficult to capture. By streamlining these experiments, the company intends to generate high-quality, standardized datasets that feed directly into AI-driven discovery models. Ann Lai, Managing Partner at lead investor Skeleton Key, emphasized that the platform’s automation creates the precise parameter tracking necessary to move AI applications beyond theoretical stages and into practical, scalable innovation in functional genomics.
