Lisa Knapp to Address Industry Workforce Gap at ASHRAE Conference

With women accounting for just 3% of HVAC technicians nationwide, the industry faces a critical need for new talent. Women in HVACR board member Lisa Knapp will tackle this shortage at the upcoming ASHRAE Annual Conference in Austin, presenting strategies to attract and retain a more diverse workforce.

Knapp’s session, titled "Targeted Career Development is Smart Business," is slated for June 28 at the JW Marriott. As part of the broader workshop "Minding Your Business: Preparing for Tomorrow's Workforce Today," the presentation focuses on shifting industry recruitment practices. Knapp, who also founded Sea the Possibility Leadership Consulting, will outline how companies can bridge the skills gap by partnering with technical colleges and implementing mentorship programs.

Joining Knapp on stage are Sonya Pouncy and Ina Colombo of the International Network of Women in Cooling. Their discussion will highlight how early engagement with students and robust support systems can create a sustainable talent pipeline. Given her three decades of experience at firms like Trane Technologies, Knapp intends to demonstrate that investing in women is not just a diversity initiative, but a core component of organizational growth.
