Microsoft is expanding its AI capabilities with the introduction of Scout, an autonomous agent designed to navigate the Microsoft 365 ecosystem. Debuted at the Microsoft Build event, this new category of software aims to handle routine tasks across Outlook, OneDrive, and Teams by learning individual user workflows and project requirements.
Security and governance remain central to the rollout. Organizations can manage these agents through Entra, ensuring identities are verified and activities adhere to IT policies. Data protection is handled via Microsoft Purview, and sensitive actions require explicit human approval. Currently, access is limited to a select group of Frontier program participants who possess an active GitHub Copilot license and specific Intune configurations. Omar Shahine, Corporate Vice President of the project, notes that the system is designed to maintain workflow momentum without requiring constant oversight.
