ECW Commits $22 Million to Restore Schooling for Sudan’s Children

The initiative aims to rebuild educational infrastructure in regions hardest hit by the fighting, which has forced 14 million people from their homes since April 2023. By establishing formal and non-formal learning environments, the program will offer mental health support and teacher training, with a specific mandate to include girls and children with disabilities. A $5 million crisis modifier is built into the budget to ensure immediate responses to further climate shocks or escalating violence.

Implementation will be managed by Save the Children, Plan International, and LM International, alongside local groups including AORD and Sadagaat. Roughly 48% of the funding is earmarked for these local partners to ensure the recovery efforts align with community-led priorities. While the current pledge provides vital seed money, the total cost to address the scope of the crisis is estimated at $39 million. This effort arrives as part of the broader 'Hope Starts Here' campaign, a global push to raise $600 million for children caught in humanitarian emergencies worldwide.
